So as the title says, ONLY 7 FLIGHTS LEFT! If everything goes well he may be finishing up this coming week. He's got the following flights left in ACM (air combat maneuvering): 1) Defensive solo, 2) High Aspect (head to head), 3) High Aspect solo, 4) Section Engage manuvering (2 vs 1 fighting)-4 of these type of flights.
The ACM flights have been a lot of fun but are really hard on his body and muscles. He can pull up to 6 G's while flying but usually holds 4 G's throughout the flight. That means that his body can feel anywhere from 4 to 6 times it's normal weight. It hasn't helped that he's had the 0530 brief every morning which means he's waking up around 0330 in the morning (my worst nightmare). I guess you could say he's ending this stage of flight school with a bang and really earning those wings of gold.
As far as the "Wings of Gold weekend", it is still scheduled for March 29th through April 1st so have no fear there are no more changes to the date. We're going to need to get expected arrival times from everyone (obviously you can wait till we get closer to the actual date though). We just need to know where to be when you come into town so we can be here to greet you all and pass out the hugs! Our idea is that most everyone will be coming into town around dinner time and we can grab a bite to eat before heading to the hotel for the night. Once we get closer I'll be listing room "assignments" and options on payment there. The main idea is that Eric and I are going to go ahead and check everyone in and have keys available and you can just pay us back. Since we're staying on base, it's not the typical hotel experience and I think if we had 20 people in their lobby they may freak out and it could take a while. Oh yeah, did we tell y'all we have quite the group coming. We'll have a total of 20 people (including Eric and I) and a set of twins too! We're so excited to share this experience with everyone and can't wait to celebrate and have an amazing get together.
With all the guest I'm working hard to have everything planned ahead of time so there's no stress during the actual celebrations. If anyone needs anything specific just let me know and we'll get that taken care of. The main thing everyone needs to worry about is getting here safely and getting plenty of sleep prior so you can "live it up" here in Big 'ol Meridian!!!
That leads me to our next point; getting to leave Meridian! We don't know where we're going next and won't know that until the Tuesday or Wednesday prior to the winging. The Commanding Officers don't actually find out what slots are available until the week before and then they work on fulfilling the students Dream Sheets and assigning what pilot will be flying which aircraft.
There are a possibility of 4 locations for the FRS (fleet replacement squadron). We could move to Virginia Beach (NAS Oceana) or Miramar, CA for F-18 Hornets; Cherry Point, NC for Harriers; or Whidbey Island, WA for Prowlers. We'll see in a couple weeks where our future is headed!
Until next time, we love you all and can't wait to be surrounded by family soon!
